General Information:Matawa First Nations Management is a Tribal Council with a membership of nine (9) Ojibway and Cree First Nations communities in the Nishnawbe Aski Nation territory. The First Nation Communities served are Aroland, Constance Lake, Eabametoong, Long Lake #58, Ginoogaming, Neskantaga, Nibinamik, Marten Falls and Webequie.
Matawa First Nations are committed to supporting each other and focusing our collective efforts on core strategic priorities. By working together as a regional community, we will use our combined knowledge and resources in order to champion the social and economic vitality of our First Nations and invest in community and people building
Our role is to support educational initiatives that result in school improvements and that positively impact on the quality of education provided for students. Supporting the local education authorities, and networking with Aboriginal organizations, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, the Provincial Ministry of Education, School Boards, Post Secondary and Secondary, Elementary institutions is an important responsibility of the Matawa Education Department.
Bowmanville Rotary Club has provided financial assistance for awards and bursaries for students to encourage them to further their education. These awards will recognize individuals for exemplary leadership and achievement as demonstrated by outstanding initiative, their impact on school and community, volunteer work and their inspiration to others. Through these awards, the Matawa Education Department seeks to encourage the recipients to further their education goals, and to motivate others to follow their lead in service to their or other First Nation Communities.
• The Bursary fund is for Matawa First Nation Community Members attending Elementary, Secondary and Post Secondary.
• Applicants are to complete the application form and attach required documentation.
• Successful applicants will be notified by letter.
